My Epiphany About Pxmas
Next to a circus there ain't nothing that packs up and tears out faster than the Christmas spirit. ~ Kin Hubbard (1868-1930)
The parent who gets down on the floor to play with a child on Christmas Day is usually doing a most remarkable thing - something seldom repeated during the rest of the year. These are, after all, busy parents committed to their work or their success in the larger society, and they do not have much leftover time in which to play with their children. ~ Brian Sutton-Smith
I'm glad that life isn't like a Christmas song, because if my friends and I were building a snowman and it suddenly came alive when we put a hat on it, I'd probably freak and stab it to death with an icicle. ~ Matthew Perry
My epiphany is thus: Pxmas really is just for children. As I've gotten older and the years have gone steadily by, the whole mysticism and awe (that I used to feel about Pxmas when I was a child) in the festivities have waned and now I can only find the Pxmas Spirit when I look into my children's eyes, feel it in thier lil arms when they hug me, hear it when they tell me how much they love me and vicariously enjoy their bliss when they open their presents and watch them laughing and playing together.
*sigh*
Maybe that's why I was meant to be a mother... to always have reminders of why life must always go on, no matter how hard things have been, may be or become for me.
